Reading: 1 Corinthians 2:9
My husband and I have always enjoyed camping together and the great adventures that the outdoors offers. Hiking trails and fishing lakes were always some of our most enjoyable experiences. After we became parents, this sense of adventuring that slowed a little soon picked up again when we purchased a travel trailer. After the first experience of tent camping with a three year old and an almost two year old in the hot summer month of July, Mommy put in a special request to upgrade the camping experience. Even with the upgrade, we still enjoy exploring the outdoors with our children and viewing the sites again through their eyes.
This sense of adventure has made its way into my spiritual walk with the Lord and I can’t be more excited about it. As I venture closer to the Lord and grow in my relationship with Him, I can’t wait to see what all He has planned for my life. It is the same enthusiasm that I feel when we go camping at a new spot. An excitement of all the marvelous things we will discover about His creations is always present when we arrive. His character and handiwork shines through it all and it is amazing. In my relationship with Him, I can see how His handiwork in my life becomes more and more marvelous as I grow closer to Him. This adventurist spirit is fueled by me engaging my senses to focus more on Christ. As I do, I see His goodness in everything including the trials of life and I am amazed at how He blesses me daily. While I feel a sense of awe, at the same time I also feel humble that as a lowly servant I can be so favored by the great Creator.
As we begin 2010, I encourage us all daily to commit to facing each day with all senses engaged toward the Creator. This beginning of a new year brings yet another day, but still the beginning of many days that we can engage in exploring His nature and character in our lives. We are about to explore another 365 days of God’s plan. Another year to expand our discoveries of the things He has prepared for us. How exciting is that?!
Prayer: Heavenly Father and great Creator of all, give me a sense of adventure about the New Year. Help me to focus on my relationship with You and Your marvelous plan for my life. I know when I do this all other things in my life fall in place. Amen.
