Mercy is Falling

by Kelly Dixon

Reading: Psalm 28:6-7

Both my girls have had some medical concerns that have caused me to sit back and take another look at how I'm trusting the Lord. I was observing their beauty in my rear view mirror as we were traveling to school just three days after we received the news about the concerns for my oldest daughter. Questions kept going through my mind of, “Why Lord?” and other questions that Satan kept tempting me to mull over. At that moment, my oldest daughter, who is also my songbird, began singing one of her favorite songs, Mercy is Falling (by MercyMe). I heard this sweet voice singing,

Your mercy is falling is falling is falling.
Mercy, it falls like a sweet spring rain.
Mercy is falling is falling all over me.

She had just gotten through the first stanza when she said, “Everybody, sing it with me!” Her sister and I then joined in singing the full song with her,

Your mercy is falling is falling is falling.
Mercy, it falls like a sweet spring rain.
Mercy is falling is falling all over me.

Your mercy is falling is falling is falling.
Mercy, it falls like a sweet spring rain.
Mercy is falling is falling all over me.

Hey-yo, I receive Your mercy.
Hey-yo, I receive Your grace.
Hey-yo, I will dance forevermore.

La la-la la-la-la la-la-la la-la-la.
La-la-la-la la-la la la la.
La-la la-la-la la-la-la la-la-la.

La la-la la-la-la la-la-la la-la-la.
La-la-la-la la-la la la la.
La-la la-la-la la-la-la la-la-la.

Hey-yo, I receive Your mercy.
Hey-yo, I receive Your grace.
Hey-yo, I will dance forevermore.

Hey-yo, I will dance forevermore.

She loves the Hey-yo part and even adds a little “Everybody says . .” right before it which is the way she originally learned to sing the song at a Vacation Bible School she attended this past summer. My heart just began to melt as the Father began to mold me into further understanding of trusting in Him. Through my little girl's favorite song I was brought into reality of what it really means to have faith in the Lord and trust His faithfulness to pour out His mercy.

In this world we live in, it makes no sense for a mother and father not to worry over the concerns of their children. This world looks at us expecting us to show our concern and care through the amount of worry that we express. "But mercy is falling like sweet spring rain" . . . As I write this outside there is a down pour of rain. It's drenching the ground along with everything else it falls on. This is a rain we have needed for a while and the earth is just absorbing all the water. God's mercy is just like the rain. Right when we need it most it drenches us and abundantly so. We are given these undeserved riches through our Father and they are riches of love, joy, and peace. Riches that make our heart just want to dance forevermore.

How are you at receiving God's mercy? Are you absorbing it and trusting in Him? We must rein in our thoughts of worry and not entertain the questions that the enemy puts in our minds. Even though this world expects us to worry, we must trust in the Father Who is faithful to pour down His mercy upon us right when we need it most. Through this lesson I have learned whatever the outcome - there My Father will be. Whatever the need - my Father will provide. And within this trust, I must receive His mercy, receive His grace and dance forevermore.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, what a horrible job I have done in trusting in You. Help me to be aware of the mercy that You have falling in my life all around me. I receive Your mercy and grace today and I dance for joy in praise to You. Thank You for Your love, mercy and grace. Thank You for Jesus!! Amen.
