Reading: John 1:1-14
Throughout high school and even college, history was not my favorite subject. To say the least, I was beyond bored with the subject. It is interesting how now I thrive off of digging into the Scriptures and linking the New and Old Testaments - especially the historical aspects. I have thought many times, what is the difference? And I have finally decided it is not the history I like, but the His-story. The story of God: the Father, Son and Holy Ghost is what engages me the most. However, even with this in mind, the gospel that I am drawn to the most is the gospel of John. John's gospel focuses more on the spiritual themes of Jesus' ministry rather than the historical. I think really what intrigues me the most about his gospel is that I can really relate to it; especially when he refers to himself as the "disciple whom Jesus loved." (see John 13:23, 19:26, and 21:7). As Christians, we all should be able to relate to this statement because Jesus does love us and we each have a personal relationship with Him. Non-believers are drawn to the gospel of John and many are saved from realizing the love of Jesus just through the simple words He wrote to express God's love to a broken world in John 3:16.
I am sure it is the writer in me that is drawn to the poetic way that John intertwines the historic accounts of Jesus' ministry with the spiritual aspects. When you read John 1:1-14, it is like you are reading pure poetry about Jesus. Yet, the historic truth is there telling the story of Jesus from the beginning.
"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God . . . .
. . . Through Him all things were made . . .
. . . In Him was life . . .
. . . He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him . . .
. . . to those who believe in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God . . .
. . . The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. . .
. . . full of grace and truth."
(excerpts from John 1:1-14 - Reading all of the verses in John 1:1-14 will give you the full picture of the flow of poetry that John intertwines.)

Whatever it is, continue daily searching the Word. Daily ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in your search of God and His Son Jesus. It is in the Word that your heart will find Jesus, Who is the Word, the living Word - full of grace and truth.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to this earth to be a living example of Your perfect Word and to be a living sacrifice for my sins. Give me the desire to seek Your Word daily. In Jesus Name. Amen,
